Most people have ideas regarding therapy due to television and movies. Yes, I will absolutely ask you how you are feeling, and you will quickly learn that good is not a feeling. Identifying your feelings are important because our feelings are directly linked to our behaviors and thoughts. If you are feeling anxious, there is a reason. Check in with your thoughts. Are you thinking about the million things you have to do?
In therapy, I assist you in communicating your feelings. There is a lot of power in being honest with another person in a nonjudgmental environment and allowing those feelings to exit your body. If we do not let our feelings out, they will manifest physically and\or we will act them out. I will also give you feedback helping you to understand how you may be perceived by others and you will develop a more adaptive perspective to thoughts that were causing you distress.
You do not need to go through a traumatic experience to enter therapy. You can use therapy as a platform to gain a better insight into yourself. This path requires a lot of work in addition to self-knowledge and self-control, so being in a stable state of mind can yield profound results.
If you have additional questions or concerns regarding beginning therapy, please do not hesitate to contact me, and I will do my best to answer your questions.
